Julián Castro (D-TX), the former mayor of San Antonio and one of more than 20 Democrats currently seeking the party's presidential nomination, released his tuition-free college and student loan plan. Andrew Kreighbaum of Inside Higher Education reports that Castro's plan "calls for eliminating tuition at public colleges as well as delaying student loan payments until a degree begins to pay off for borrowers" and "Castro's plan encompasses all levels of public education, backing universal pre-K as well as new investments in K-12 schools and teacher training." Other candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination, including Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), have similarly supported tuition-free college policies.
